Currently the Chromecast plays back Internet only content. There are some hacks where people were able to write a Java based webserver that ran in their desktop Chrome applications, but I did not see a way to use that yet as a solution for playing back your local media. It may be a possibility soon though.

So I have Kodi on my android set up to automatically send videos to localcast to be streamed on my TV through chromecast. The problem isthere are lots of movies on Exodus I have tested that playback fine on my phone, but when sent to localcast it says it can't be played due to either a missing codec in chromecast firmware, the video was deleted or my ISP is blocking the stream.
